BACKGROUND: TX THEATRE PRODUCTIONS

TX Theatre Productions (TX) is performing arts Company which was established in the year 2008 by Mxolisi Masilela, who is the Artistic Director who has introduced a new innovative form of Abstract theatre. Officially registered as a Non-Profit Organisation in March 2014 through the department of Social Development. TX is an organisation based in Tembisa, which specialises in drama, music and dance under the category of performing arts.

TX Theatre Productions has also recently started drama classes, which run on Saturdays at 9am - 1pm Run by Mxolisi Masilela and Mongezi Mabunda. And dance classes in partnership with internationally acclaimed dancer Teresa Phuti Mojela, which run on Tuesdays and Thurdays at 5:30 - 6:30pm,

and on Saturdays 8:00 - 10:30pm.

 

VISION AND MISSION

  • Sustaining performing arts and entertainment in Tembisa and eventually reaching out to the rest of the country.

  • Change the idea of being in the performing arts into a profitable and valuable business using performing arts.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Overcome challenges and change them to sustainability and development of our organisation and to also playing a part in curbing the ever growing challenges of the Tembisa community such as:

  • Abuse

  • HIV/AIDS

  • Poverty

  • Drug and Alcohol abuse

  • Crime

By recruiting out of school youth who are interested in the performing arts to be part of TX As TX we aim to:

  • Transform a theatre group into a big theatre business.

  • Develop and offer skills to artists, and broaden horizons nationally and create jobs for youth. TX intends to expand and reach to higher standards of performing arts and entertainment industry.

ACHIEVEMENTS

In its years of existence TX has achieved a lot in a short space of time, the most notable of them all is their it’s production titled “Queen: The Chosen Ones” being nominated for a Naledi Theatre Award under the category of Best Community Theatre on 18 March 2013 at the Gold Reef City Lyric Theatre. As one of the most successful plays “Queen: The Chosen Ones” has been:

  • Best Production at the Ekurhuleni Heritage Art Festival in September 2012 held at Dries Niemandt Park in Kempton Park.

  • Participated in the Zwakala Community festival held by The Market Theatre Laboratory in October 2012 and was rated in second place.

  • Participated in the Gauteng Ishashalazi Theatre Festival in December 2012 held at the Soweto Theatre.

  • February 2012 participated in the Windy Brow Community theatre festival with the play titled “After Tears” and were awarded a 1 week season.

  • "Thula" Won Best Visiting Production and Best Music Director at the 2014 Zabalaza Theatre Festival held at The Baxter Theatre in Cape Town on the week of 7 – 15 March 2014.

  • “Thula Thula” won the best of Zwakala at the Market Theatre in December 2014

  • Hosted their 4 successful Kuwamba Women’s Theatre Festival,  from August 2014 to August 2017

  • The “TEMBISA THEATRE WEEK” is one if the successes of the TX THEATRE PRODUCTIONS

“EXHIBITION” is the latest work that has been season professionally at the South African State Theatre (twice)  and at the national arts festival.
